Get into the spring holiday spirit and check out today’s issue for ways to get up and out this week!
Art: Into the Sunset: Photography’s Image of the American West
Into the Sunset examines how photography has pictured the idea of the American West from 1850 to the present. For over 150 years, the image of the West has been formed and changed through a variety of photographic traditions and genres, and this exhibition considers the medium’s role in shaping our collective imagination of the West.
Music: Crocodiles
Crocodiles’s debut album, Summer of Hate, takes its cues from dark drones of decades past. Their two-man arrangement, in which Rowell plays guitar and Welchez passively sings…alludes to the Jesus and Mary Chain, who similarly launched on an anarchic note and gradually subsumed their rage into feedback-plastered pop. Crocodiles’s most sweetly melodic moments makes it difficult not to take the Californian’s sun-kissed directive and sing along.
Culture: The Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival
Participate in a much loved tradition this Easter Sunday: The Easter Parade! You’ll enjoy the beginning of spring weather as you watch all the pastel, flowery costumes parade along Fifth Avenue, between 49th and 57th Streets. Be sure to come dressed in your biggest, brightest Easter Bonnet (with all the frills upon it) for the Bonnet Festival! (Even better, it’s free!!)
Did You Know…about P.U.M.A. Vehicle?
GM and Segway’s joint venture is probably best described as a rickshaw without all the charm. The self-balancing Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility Project (P.U.M.A.) can reach top speeds of 35 MPH, has a lithium battery that lasts up to 35 miles with a single charge, and features vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication for potentially reducing the number of accidents.

Winston Churchill Day (Thursday, April 9th)
Winston Churchill Day celebrates the day he was made an honorary US citizen. On this day in 1963, Winston Churchill became the very first person to become an honorary citizen. He was given this honor posthumously. There have only been 6 people (two are a married couple who received it jointly) to be accorded this stature.
National Sibling Day (Friday, April 10th)
National Sibling Day is a day to appreciate and cherish your brothers and sisters. Siblings are truly a special blessing that we probably all too often take for granted. They are often our best friends and supporters through life. Another reason to celebrate is that not everyone is lucky enough to have siblings. Their lives are significantly different growing up, and throughout life.
